I'm finally taking that big trip to Italy this summer and I really need to nail down a single lens for my 90D because I am not carrying a whole backpack of gear in that heat. I've been looking at the Canon 18-135mm Nano USM since it seems super versatile but then I read some stuff saying the Sigma 17-50mm is way sharper even if it doesnt have the reach. I'm torn because I like taking photos of architecture but I also want those tight street shots.
- Budget: Trying to stay under $500 used
- Weight: Must be light enough for all-day walking
- Subjects: Landscapes, street food, maybe some indoor museum shots
Should I prioritize the extra zoom or the faster aperture for low light stuff? Or is there a dark horse lens I'm totally ignoring...
In my experience, reach matters way more. Once in Rome, I carried a fast prime but couldnt frame the high details on the Pantheon. I've tried many lenses and the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Nano is definitely the most reliable choice for a 90D.
- Range covers wide piazzas and balcony details
- Nano USM focus is instant
- Stabilization handles dark museums Its the safest bet.
