So I tried to take some shots of this cabin we rented in the mountains and realized my kit lens is basically useless for interiors. Everything looks so cramped and I cant fit more than half the room in the frame. Its super frustrating because I have a trip to Chicago coming up in two weeks and really need something wider. My budget is tight, like 300 bucks max. Im currently looking at the Canon EF-S 10-18mm and the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8. The Canon is way cheaper but is the f/2.8 on the Tokina worth the extra cash for low light? Has anyone used these on a T7?
Honestly, stick with the Canon EF-S 10-18mm f/4.5-5.6 IS STM. I have used this lens for years on different bodies and for real estate stuff it is a total lifesaver. Yeah, the Tokina 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro DX II sounds better on paper because of that aperture, but that extra speed rarely makes up for the weight and the lack of image stabilization. In my experience, shooting interiors usually means you have a tripod anyway, so just bump your shutter speed and let the IS handle the rest. Save that extra hundred bucks for a solid Manfrotto Compact Action Tripod or some extra memory cards. Just dont push your ISO too high on the T7 sensor or the noise will get real ugly real fast.
