Ive been shooting with my R5 for a couple years now, mostly portraits and some street stuff, but I have a huge trip to Iceland coming up in three weeks and suddenly realized my current glass isnt cutting it for wide landscapes. I need something that can really handle that 45mp sensor without losing sharpness in the corners. My budget is around 2k but I could push it a bit if its really worth it. Im stuck between just getting the RF 15-35mm f/2.8 or maybe looking at the 14-35mm to save some weight. Does anyone have experience with these for actual landscape work? Is the 15-35 worth the extra bulk?
> Is the 15-35 worth the extra bulk? Honestly, save the cash and go for the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM. I used to lug around the 15-35mm but that thing is an absolute tank! For hiking in Iceland, you really dont want that extra weight dragging you down. The 14-35mm is so much more practical for travel and the corner sharpness is fantastic on the R5. You really aren't losing much since you'll be shooting landscapes at f/8 or f/11 anyway! Plus, you can take that extra 600-700 bucks you saved and pick up a Nisi V7 100mm Filter Kit or even put it toward a solid tripod like the Peak Design Travel Tripod Carbon Fiber. Seriously, having a good set of filters makes a way bigger difference for those waterfalls and moody Icelandic skies than an extra stop of aperture. I love the reach on the 14-35 too, having that extra 1mm on the wide end is actually a life saver for those tight canyon shots. Just grab the f/4 and dont look back, its a total gem for the R5!
