I just got the new Canon EOS R6 Mark II mirrorless camera and I'm looking to get a great wide-angle lens for landscape and architecture photography. What are the top recommendations for this camera? Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

For wide-angle prime lens, I recommended the RF 24mm & 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS USM Lenses.

For wide-angle zoom lens, I recommended the RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM lens, and for a cheaper price wide-angle zoom lens, you may try RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM.

I am honestly facing the exact same dilemma with my Canon EOS R6 Mark II and I have been researching this for three months now with no luck.

  • I am trying to be careful about spending thousands on glass that might require heavy software correction for my architectural shots.
  • It is quite frustrating that there still isnt a clear, reliable choice that makes me feel safe about the investment. I am basically at a standstill because I want to make sure to avoid any costly mistakes and I just cant find a definitive answer.

I've run quite a few tests with the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and I'm honestly pretty disappointed with how the native wide-angle glass is performing lately. The technical trade-offs for size have led to some really frustrating distortion levels that you have to fix in post-processing.

  • Just go with the L-series zooms from Canon if you want any semblance of professional results.
  • You can also try any of the wide primes from the same brand, but dont expect the corners to stay sharp.
  • Personally, I'd just get any high-end wide-angle from the manufacturer because the mid-range options are just not as good as expected for architecture work...

For top-notch image quality and low light performance, the RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM is an amazing lens, albeit more expensive at around $1,700. The f/4 maximum aperture is bright enough for most landscape uses and it delivers tack sharp results.

Waiting for Sigma and Tamron to release some full frame RF lenses.

Have you considered just getting an affordable ultra-wide prime? The RF 16mm f/2.8 STM is only $300 and very good for the price. Easy to pack and you get that fast f/2.8 aperture. Not ultra-premium optics but great bang for your buck.

Has anyone tried the new RF 10-20mm f/4L IS STM lens ?

@flybag A superb lens, but too expensive for me.

The new RF 35mm f/1.4L VCM lens is also recommended!

Canon EOS R6 Mark II is a versatile full-frame mirrorless camera, and there are several excellent wide-angle lens options available for it.

  1. Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM

    • This lens is part of Canon's L-series, offering excellent image quality, a fast f/2.8 aperture, and image stabilization. It's versatile for both landscapes and architectural photography, providing a wide zoom range that can accommodate different shooting situations.
  2. Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM

    • This lens combines a wide-angle zoom range with a more compact design and a constant f/4 aperture. It also features image stabilization and is ideal for photographers who want a lightweight option without sacrificing image quality. It’s a great choice for landscapes and travel photography.
  3. Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM

    • This is an ultra-compact and lightweight lens with a fast f/2.8 aperture. While it's a prime lens, its wide-angle capability makes it excellent for vlogging, landscapes, and street photography. Its affordability and portability make it a popular choice among enthusiasts and casual shooters.

I am actually dealing with this exact same dilemma right now. I recently picked up the Canon EOS R6 Mark II and I have been fairly disappointed with the lens selection available for wide-angle work. It feels like every option currently on the market involves some sort of major compromise, and the results I have seen are honestly not as good as expected for this price point. I have had issues with finding anything that feels like a true professional-grade solution without hitting some massive technical drawback. To help me narrow down my own search along with yours, I have a couple of questions:

  • What is your strict maximum budget for this glass?
  • Are you mostly shooting handheld or will you be using a tripod for these architectural shots? It is just frustrating how difficult it is to find a straightforward answer for this mount right now...

I agree, personally I love the RF 14-35mm f/4L IS best.

Waiting for Sigma and Tamron to release some full frame RF lenses.

I think we will not see these lenses until in late 2025 to 2026.
