I recently purchased a Canon EOS R6 mirrorless camera and I'm looking for some budget-friendly lens options to pair with it. I mostly shoot landscapes and portraits. Any recommendations ?

tbh i've tried many lenses over the years and i still think the safest budget move for the r6 is the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM. it covers your landscapes perfectly and the image stabilization is super reliable. i usually avoid third party stuff or adapted glass because i want that native reliability... dont wanna deal with firmware issues or weird glitches. for portraits the Canon RF 85mm f/2 Macro IS STM is the way to go. its more robust than the cheaper 50mm and that extra reach makes a huge difference. just make sure you pick them up from an authorized seller so you get the full canon warranty. better to be safe than sorry when you're spending hundreds of dollars on glass.

Saw this thread earlier and wanted to chime in because ive seen way too many people run into issues with third-party glass. I totally agree with Richard about sticking to native RF lenses. Using adapters for old EF lenses or buying off-brand stuff might save a few bucks now, but you risk weird autofocus glitches or the IBIS not working right with the R6 sensor. Better to play it safe and stay within the Canon ecosystem. Couple tips for the budget route:

  • Might want to consider the Canon RF 16mm f/2.8 STM for wide landscapes, but just be careful with the edge distortion.
  • Make sure to buy the lens hoods separately since the budget STM line doesnt include them and youll want that extra protection. I would suggest staying native... its just not worth the headache of firmware bugs down the road.

RF 50MM F1.8 STM lens for Portrait,

RF 28mm f/2.8 STM lens for Landscape.

Try the Canon RF 24-50mm f/4.5-6.3 IS STM Lens.

I love RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM. It is really small and light.
