Ugh, okay so I finally bit the bullet and bought a Canon R5 because everyone told me it was the best, but now Im staring at the camera body and I have literally no idea what lens to actually attach to it? Sorry if this is a super dumb question but the mount things are all so confusing and I dont want to waste money on the wrong glass. I need something that can basically do it all because I have a trip to Italy in three weeks and I really dont want to be swapping lenses while running around Rome.
Here is what I need:
- Something versatile for street photography and maybe some landscape stuff
- Needs to be somewhat easy to use since Im a total beginner
- Budget is around 1500 to 2000 dollars max, I know lenses are expensive but my wallet is already crying
- Ideally not something that weighs a ton because I dont want to be carrying a brick all day
Is there like one go-to lens that everyone uses? Ive heard people talk about 24-70mm or 24-105mm but I dont get the difference at all. Please tell me what to get before I lose my mind...
Just grab the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. I took mine all over Europe and honestly, it never left my camera. Versatile range, super sharp, total lifesaver.
Honestly, the expensive L-series glass is often a trap for beginners. I had issues with the weight balance on my R5, which was frustrating. Instead of blowing your budget, look at the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM. It is significantly cheaper, lighter, and leaves you extra cash for your trip. It is not as fast in low light, unfortunately, but for travel, it is much more practical than the heavy bricks everyone else suggests.
Honestly, skip the 24-70mm f/2.8, I bought the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM and it is just way too heavy for traveling. You will hate dragging it around all day in Rome. Grab the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM instead. It is lighter, cheaper, and that extra reach at 105mm is a lifesaver for street shots. You wont regret it.
