Honestly so fed up with my current kit, the quality just isnt cutting it for my weddings anymore and I feel like im losing my mind lugging around a bag full of primes. I finally caved and got the R5 but finding the right glass is driving me crazy. I need something versatile for the upcoming season in Chicago since I dont have time to swap lenses mid-ceremony.
- Needs to be an f/2.8 zoom
- Budget is around 2500 bucks
- Sharpness is non-negotiable
- Fast AF is a must
Is the 24-70mm really the only way to go or am I missing something better? Ive been staring at reviews for weeks and im just exhausted...
Honestly, I feel your pain. I tried to stick with primes for a while but for weddings, it just becomes a disaster. I picked up the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM when I moved to the R5 and honestly, it is the only way to go if you want to keep your sanity.
- The sharpness is ridiculous compared to the older stuff.
- AF is lightning fast, never misses a beat during a first kiss.
- Image stabilization helps a ton when the lighting gets low at the reception. Unfortunately, the weight is still a bit much, which is what I had issues with at first, but it is not as bad as a bag full of primes. If you really cant stand the size, maybe look at the Canon RF 28-70mm f/2L USM tho that blows your budget and is way heavier. Save yourself the headache and just grab the 24-70. It just works.
