What lens should I pick up as a permanent fixture for my R5? Ive been shooting with primes for years but I have a destination wedding in Italy next month and I absolutely hate swapping glass in dusty environments.
Needs to be sharp enough for the 45mp sensor. Budget is around 2k. Should I just grab the 24-70mm 2.8 or is there something else I'm missing...
Honestly, just get the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM. In my experience, it is the only lens that actually does justice to the 45mp sensor on the R5.
- It is weather-sealed perfectly for dusty environments
- The f/2.8 aperture is essential for those dim reception halls
- Sharpness is edge-to-edge across the zoom range I have used it for years and it never leaves my body.
If you want something lighter for travel, consider the Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM. It is super versatile for weddings and fits the budget perfectly tbh.
To add to the point above, if you want that extra reach without changing lenses, honestly look at the Canon RF 28-70mm F2L USM. I know it pushes your budget a bit, but for weddings, that f/2 aperture is just insane. You basically get prime-level bokeh and light gathering while having the convenience of a zoom. If you stick with the 24-70 or the 24-105, just make sure you pick up a high-quality filter like the B+W 82mm XS-Pro Clear MRC Nano to keep that front element protected from the dust in Italy. It saves a lot of stress during a long shoot. Honestly, I've been using that setup for a while now and I am super satisfied with the reliability. It just works well every time.
Bookmarked, thanks!
