I just dropped a small fortune on an R5 for my cousins wedding in October and now my bank account is screaming. I really need one solid lens that can do it all because I dont want to be lugging around a bag full of glass while trying to catch shots. Im torn between the RF 24-70mm f/2.8 and the RF 24-105mm f/4. The 2.8 is obviously better for light, but man, the price tag makes me nervous. Is the extra range on the 105 worth losing that stop of light for a beginner like me? I really dont want to regret this purchase right before the big day...
Honestly, skip the expensive f/2.8 glass for now. Since you just dropped a ton on the camera, dont burn through your savings. I used the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM for a wedding last year and it was totally fine. That extra range is super clutch when youre in a church and cant move around much. You wont even miss the stop of light because the R5 handles high ISO like a beast. Honestly, even at 6400, the files look clean enough for prints. If you really want to save some cash, look for a refurbished copy from the official site. They basically look brand new and come with a warranty. With the money you save, maybe grab a cheap prime like the Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM for the reception. It is super tiny and lets in way more light for those dark dance floor shots where you really need it. It costs basically nothing compared to the zoom lenses. I am super satisfied with that combo. Dont overthink it and just enjoy the wedding... you are gonna get some awesome shots with the R5 either way.
I agree with the others. Stick to the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM for now. It works well and saves you money for a decent flash later on.
Are you shooting mostly inside a dark church or outdoors? I used the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM for years and loved it.
