Im getting super frustrated trying to pick a lens for my R5. Ive been looking at the RF 24-70mm f/2.8 because everyone online screams that its the gold standard, but then I read some forums saying the weight is a total nightmare for travel and all-day shooting. Plus its like 2.5k which is really pushing my budget right now. I shoot mostly street photography and some portraits while traveling around the PNW. Is the 24-105 f/4 sharp enough to actually justify the price difference, or am I gonna regret not having that extra stop of light? Im leaving for a trip in three weeks and just cant decide...

Late to the party, but honestly, ditch the heavy glass if you're hiking the PNW! I carried the Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM for months and my neck basically died. It is a beast. If you're doing street and portraits, check out the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. It is honestly fantastic for travel. That extra reach is amazing for when you see a moody mountain shot or need to grab a quick portrait without getting right in someone's face. The sharpness is stellar, and you wont miss that stop of light as much as you think with the R5 sensor. If you really need low light, just throw the cheap Canon RF 50mm f/1.8 STM in your bag. It is tiny and handles those night shots perfectly. Check out the-digital-picture for comparison shots!

Do you prioritize bokeh for those portraits or is versatility more important? Personally, I prefer the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM for travel, but the weight difference really matters.

Honestly, just grab the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. Its way lighter for travel, plenty sharp, and the extra reach is a lifesaver for PNW landscapes and portraits.
