im so frustrated right now because i tried taking some portraits of my niece for her birthday next weekend using the kit lens that came with my Canon 80D and they just look totally flat and boring compared to what other people post online. everyone keeps talking about bokeh and compression and f stops and honestly my brain is about to melt trying to figure out what any of it means. i just want that nice blurry background behind her while shes blowing out her candles inside the house without having to use a flash thats way too bright. my budget is around 300 bucks max since i am completely broke after buying the camera body last month. sorry if this is a super basic or dumb question cause im just starting out and dont know the lingo at all. what is the absolute best portrait lens for a total beginner using an 80D that wont break the bank...

  • Get the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM for about $125.
  • It fits your budget perfectly and gives that blurry background you need indoors.
