What is the best all-around lens for the Canon EOS R5 Mark II? Sorry if this is a dumb question but I just bought this camera for a trip to Italy next month and I feel totally lost. I dont know what to get. Budget is kinda flexible but I dont want to spend a fortune. Just need something that works for everything...
Honestly, don't overthink it. For a trip like Italy, you want versatility without lugging a bag full of glass. In my experience, the Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM is the gold standard for a reason. It handles landscapes and portraits perfectly. I've taken that lens on every trip for years and it never fails. It's built like a tank too, so you wont have to worry about it holding up while you're wandering around.
Jumping in here because specs matter for the R5 II sensor! I totally disagree that corner sharpness is an issue with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. It is actually amazing for travel resolution.
- Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM: best weight-to-sharpness ratio.
- Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM: faster aperture if you need low light performance. If you want the absolute best tech, stick with the 24-105mm for your trip!
Been thinking about your setup. I tried the Canon RF 24-105mm F4 L IS USM for my Amalfi trip, but unfortunately, the sharpness in the corners really disappointed me. It just wasnt as good as expected for an R5 series body. You might want to consider these instead:
- Canon RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM for better low light
- Canon RF 28-70mm F2 L USM if you dont mind the weight Really, the clarity just matters more.
