What is the best portrait lens for a Canon Rebel T6 because I am so frustrated trying to figure this out with all these confusing numbers and letters. Sorry if this is a totally dumb question but I just want to take nice photos of my kids without the blurry backgrounds driving me nuts. I only have about 150 bucks to spend right now and need something simple. Which one should I actually buy?

Not a dumb question at all! With a strict 150 dollar budget and a crop sensor camera like your Rebel T6, the math is actually super straightforward. You want the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM lens, hands down. On your camera body, that 50mm focal length gives you an effective 80mm field of view, which is basically the absolute gold standard for portraits. That wide f/1.8 aperture is the exact secret to getting those creamy, blurry backgrounds that isolate your kids from the mess behind them. Plus, it lets in tons of light so you wont get motion blur when they run around. Seriously, at around 125 bucks new, it is literally the sharpest glass you can buy for anywhere near this price point. Grab one of these and your frustration will vanish instantly!
