Torn between the cheap 50mm f1.8 and the 85mm f1.8 for my 90D. My logic was 85mm has better bokeh but im shooting in a tiny studio this weekend so space is tight. Budget is $400 max and I need to buy it today... which one works better for headshots on a crop?
Honestly, you gotta go with the 50mm for a small space! I learned this the hard way at my cousins wedding last year when I tried using a long lens in a cramped dressing room. I thought the bokeh would be amazing, but the room was so tiny I was literally backed into a corner hitting my head against a wall just to get a decent shot. It was such a mess lol. On your 90D crop sensor, that Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM is gonna feel way too zoomed in for a tight studio. Go grab the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM right now. It is such a fantastic little lens and super reliable! I love it because it is cheap but the sharpness is just amazing for headshots. Plus it is way under your $400 budget, usually only around $125. You wont regret having the extra room to move around!
