I am so done with this kit lens. I was trying to shoot my sisters engagement party yesterday and every single photo came out blurry because the aperture just isnt fast enough for low light. honestly i feel like I wasted so much money on this a7iii if I cant even get a crisp shot indoors.

i have another event coming up next Friday and I seriously need a prime lens that actually works. I have about 600 bucks to spend and i just need something sharp and fast. 35mm? 50mm? i dont even know anymore i just need something that wont fail me like this zoom did. Which prime should I get for my Sony before I lose my mind?

Look, i totally get the frustration. those kit lenses are basically paperweights once the sun goes down or the indoor lights get dim. In my experience, you dont need to drop two grand to get professional results, but you do need to be smart about which glass you pick. Reliability is everything when people are counting on you for photos.

  • Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 - this is the safest bet for indoor events. its wide enough for groups and the autofocus is snappy.
  • Sony FE 85mm f/1.8 - if you want that blurry background look, this is arguably the best value lens Sony makes. If i were in your shoes, id grab the 35mm. it fits your budget and it is a total workhorse. check for a used copy to save some cash... you really cant go wrong with either of these tho.
