What prime lens should I actually be using for street photography on my 90D? Honestly, Im just totally fed up with my 18-135mm kit lens because it feels like a total brick, and every time I try to catch a candid moment in downtown Chicago, the focus is either too slow or the image just looks muddy. I feel like im missing half the shots I see because im struggling with the weight and the lack of sharpness when the sun starts going down.
I really need something lighter and faster, maybe something that forces me to be a bit more mobile, you know? I want that classic street look without having to lug around a small gym weight on the front of my camera. My budget is around 400 bucks max, which I know is tight, but I really want to get this sorted before a trip I have coming up in three weeks. Is it worth grabbing the 24mm pancake? Or will I regret not having something like a 35mm or 50mm? People keep telling me the 50mm is too tight on a crop sensor body, but then others say it is the best for portraits and street stuff.
Im just tired of feeling like my gear is the reason my photos look like amateur hour. I want to actually go out and shoot without feeling like I have to carry a tripod or a massive camera bag just to keep it steady. Does anyone have a specific lens that actually works well on the 90D, or am I stuck in this cycle of blurry photos and regret forever? Really just looking for something reliable that wont break the bank but still gives me that crisp look when I finally do nail the shot...
Forget the kit lens. Grab the Canon EF-S 24mm f/2.8 STM pancake lens. It makes the 90D much lighter, though unfortunately, it lacks the bokeh of the 50mm f/1.8.
Jumping in here, I loved the Canon EF 35mm f/2 IS USM for street work. It is sharp and small enough to leave the gym weights at home, seriously.
> I want that classic street look without having to lug around a small gym weight on the front of my camera. Dude I totally feel your pain on the kit lens struggle! If you want a killer setup that wont wreck your budget and handles low light like an absolute beast, you gotta look at the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC HSM Art. Its honestly amazing for crop sensors like the 90D. You get that sweet 48mm equivalent field of view which is just magic for street stuff, not too wide and not too zoomed in. Plus that f/1.4 aperture lets in so much light when the sun goes down! Way sharper than the nifty fifty on an APS-C body imo. You can usually find them used well under 300 bucks too. Grab one and go hit the Chicago streets, youll love it!
Coming back to this, you might want to consider just checking out some primes from Canon directly before buying. Do you usually shoot closer to buildings or out in the open?
Any updates on this?
