Honestly I am so fed up with this 18-55mm kit lens that came with my Rebel T7. Like seriously, I took it to my sisters graduation last week and every single photo turned out grainy or just slightly out of focus and I want to throw the whole thing out the window. I spent like three hours trying to edit them in Lightroom and they still look like garbage because the aperture is so high when I zoom in even a little bit. I need something sharp and fast because I have a trip to Chicago in three weeks and I dont want to miss every cool building or street shot because my gear is holding me back. I keep hearing about prime lenses but I dont know which focal length is actually gonna work on a crop sensor and I'm really anxious about wasting more money on something that wont fix the problem.
- Budget is strictly under $250 since I already spent too much on the camera kit
- Must be good for low light because I hate using that pop up flash
- Lightweight enough to carry around all day while walking
- Good for portraits and maybe some street photography
Should I just get the 50mm f1.8 or is that gonna be too zoomed in on my T7? I've seen people mention the 24mm pancake lens too but I'm worried it wont give me that blurry background everyone talks about. I'm just really stressed about making the wrong choice again...
Ive been very satisfied with the Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 STM on crop sensors. It hits all your specs for low light and sharpness without breaking the bank.
- 80mm full-frame equivalent field of view
- f/1.8 aperture for way more light than your kit lens
- Fast STM motor for better focus accuracy No complaints here, it works well for portraits. The bokeh is way better than the 24mm pancake anyway.
