Im trying to kit out my R6 for some landscape work before a trip to Iceland next month and Im totally paralyzed by choice. Ive been eyeing the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4 because the range seems perfect but then I read a few forums saying the corner softness is kinda brutal at 14mm. So I was thinking maybe the 15-35mm f/2.8 instead but that lens is massive and way over my 2k budget. My logic was that I needed the speed for night shots but do I actually? Im so stuck between getting the native glass or just grabbing a Samyang prime to save some cash. Which one are you guys actually using?

Honestly, I get why you're stressed. Iceland is a bucket list trip and you dont want to be lugging around a brick that you never end up using. I use the Canon RF 14-35mm f/4L IS USM on my R6 and honestly, I think the corner softness thing is way overblown. Unless you are printing massive gallery-sized landscapes for a museum, you really wont notice it. It is super light, sharp enough for my needs, and the range is just perfect for those massive waterfalls. Plus, having the stabilization is a life saver when you dont want to carry a tripod everywhere. Regarding the night shots, if you really want to capture the northern lights or just starry skies, forget the expensive f/2.8 zoom. Just grab a cheap prime like the Samyang AF 14mm f/2.8 RF for that specific purpose. It is tiny, way cheaper than the Canon 15-35mm, and it does a stellar job with stars. Carrying the zoom for the daytime landscape stuff and a little prime in your bag for night is the best setup. I am super satisfied with that combo. Youre gonna love Iceland, just dont overthink the gear too much and enjoy the scenery!
