So I think I totally messed up and bought way too much camera for what I actually know how to do. I basically spent my entire savings on this Canon R5 because my cousin who does professional photography said it was the best one I could get but now I am sitting here looking at it and I have literally no idea how to even use it or what lens to buy. I thought it would just come with everything I needed to take a picture but the box didn't even have a lens in it? I feel so stupid. I went online to look for a lens and there are like a million choices and none of them make sense to me at all.
What do all these numbers even mean? Like 24-70mm or 50mm or f/2.8... it is all just gibberish and I am getting so frustrated because every time I think I found one someone on a video says it is the wrong one or it is for a different type of camera and I dont want to buy something that doesnt fit. My brain is actually melting. I really need just one lens that can do everything because I cannot afford to keep buying more stuff and I dont want to be switching them out while I am walking around in a foreign country.
I am going to Italy in about ten days for a huge family trip and I want to take good pictures of the old buildings and my kids but everything I try to look up just makes me more confused. I just want it to work.
Here is what I am looking for I guess:
- I only have about $1100 left to spend and that is really pushing it.
- I need it to be able to zoom in on stuff far away but also see the whole street or a big church.
- It needs to be simple because I barely understand how to turn the thing on right now.
- I have to be able to get it delivered before the 14th of this month.
Is there like one lens that does everything for a beginner? Someone mentioned a 24-105 thing but then I saw there are two versions and one is three times the price of the other and I dont get why? I just want to take clear photos without having to be a rocket scientist...
Unfortunately, the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4-7.1 IS STM is disappointing in low light. I had issues with it, so find a used Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM for better quality.
The 24-105mm L-series is the gold standard for versatility on that R5. You definitely want the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM specifically. The constant f/4 aperture means it wont get darker when you zoom in, which is fantastic for those big churches! Just snag a refurbished one to hit that $1100 price point. Its gonna be amazing for Italy!
I remember when I first got a high-res sensor and realized my old glass just couldnt keep up. It was a total wake-up call lol. Since you need reach for those Italian towers, you might want to consider the Canon RF 24-240mm f/4-6.3 IS USM instead of the 24-105.
- Much more zoom for far away stuff
- Fits your $1100 budget new
- Very simple to use Just be careful in dark churches as it likes plenty of light!
