Im trying to get ready for a wedding shoot in Seattle in two weeks and my kit is totally lacking a wide lens for the R6. Ive spent hours looking at reviews and its making my head spin honestly. Everyone says the RF 15-35mm is the king but its way over my $1200 budget and i really dont want to finance a lens right now. Then i looked at the cheap 16mm prime but people online are saying the distortion and corner softness is a nightmare for professional work. I have an adapter so maybe an old EF 16-35mm? But will the autofocus keep up with the R6s speed or is that just gonna be a headache? Im just really stuck on what actually delivers for the price... which wide-angle lens works best on a Canon R6 without breaking the bank?

honestly i totally get the frustration because the price gap between budget glass and the pro level on the r6 is huge. i've been in that exact spot where you're staring at the cart and just cant pull the trigger. using an adapter works better than most people think tho, especially for wedding work where the r6 eye-af handles the heavy lifting anyway. it really just comes down to your shooting style and how much weight you want to lug around for a long day in seattle. to narrow this down a bit:

  • are you planning to use this mostly for those wide venue shots or are you looking for something for close-up dance floor action?
  • how much does aperture matter for your specific venue? if it's a dark cathedral, that changes the math quite a bit compared to an outdoor ceremony. let me know those details and i can share what worked for me on my r6.
