Are there any active sales on mirrorless camera bodies?

My trusty old Sony a7R II finally gave up on me during a wedding shoot last weekend and I am honestly kind of panicking. Ive been shooting professionally for like six years now, so I know my way around a sensor, but having a body just die mid-job was a total nightmare. I managed to limp through with my backup but the shutter count on that one is super high too and I really dont trust it for another full day of work. I need to replace the primary body ASAP because I have a destination elopement coming up in Chicago in about ten days and I cant show up there with gear I dont trust.

Im looking for a solid mirrorless body, preferably sticking with Sony since I have a bunch of G Master glass already, but honestly at this point Im open to anything if the price is right. My budget is capped at around 2200 bucks right now since I just had to dump a bunch of money into car repairs last month. I keep checking B&H and Adorama but everything seems to be at full retail price, which feels like a slap in the face when I need this thing immediately. Are there any actual secret sales happening right now on bodies? I feel like I usually see these rotating discounts on the a7 IV or maybe even a deal on an older a7R model if you bundle, but everything just looks stagnant. Is there some specific retailer or outlet I should be checking that I might have missed in my frantic searching today? Im feeling pretty stressed about having to buy something at full price when I know these things go on sale every other month usually. If anyone knows of a current discount code or a hidden sale page for camera bodies, please let me know because I am running out of time here...

> everything just looks stagnant Honestly, Sony sales are dry right now. Grab a Sony Alpha 7 IV 33MP Full-frame instead; it is rock solid for weddings despite the price.

@Reply #1 - good point! The a7 IV is definitely a workhorse, but honestly, if you are doing weddings and need to save a bit of cash without sacrificing high-res files, you should look at a used Sony Alpha 7R III 42.4MP Full-frame Mirrorless. I have been rocking an R-series body for years, and the dynamic range on that 42.4MP sensor still beats a lot of newer stuff in my experience. You can easily find these at KEH or MPB in excellent condition for well under your 2200 budget, which leaves you plenty of room for an extra battery or two. Since you are heading to Chicago and need gear you can actually trust, check the outlet pages on the main photography sites specifically for open-box returns. Sometimes people buy a Sony Alpha 7R IV 61MP Full-frame Mirrorless and return it immediately because they realize they dont actually need that much resolution. If you get lucky, you can snag one of those for nearly the price of a standard model. Honestly, for elopements, that resolution is a lifesaver when you need to crop in tight during post. Just dont stress the retail price too much, look for the refurbished listings instead. It is the best way to get pro-grade gear when the market feels stagnant like this.

Building on the earlier suggestion, you really need to be careful about buying used gear when you're on such a tight deadline for a job. If you absolutely need a reliable body right now and can't find a sale, stop chasing retail discounts and look for open-box units at reputable shops. That is honestly your best bet for saving a few hundred bucks without the risk of a total lemon.

  • Check Greentoe if you havent already, sometimes you can get a new Sony Alpha 7C II 33MP Full-frame Mirrorless under retail by making an offer.
  • Skip the gray market listings since you are shooting a wedding; a broken camera during a client job is not worth the stress. Make sure your firmware is updated immediately if you grab a new body. Dont risk a malfunction mid-shoot because you skipped the setup. You're cutting it close, so play it safe.
