I have been stressing out so hard about this birding trip I have coming up in Florida in less than three weeks and my old trusty Canon just isnt cutting it anymore. I finally decided to make the jump to Sony because I need that crazy good autofocus everyone talks about but man the prices for a used a7iv or even an a7riii are all over the place and I only have about 1400 bucks to spend on the body itself. I have been looking at MPB and KEH like crazy but im kinda worried because I read some recent stuff on reddit saying MPB is having some quality control issues with their grading lately and KEH seems way more expensive for the same stuff.
I also tried looking at eBay but that honestly makes me so nervous because I dont want to get scammed or end up with a body that has a massive shutter count that wasnt listed. Is there some secret spot or maybe some specific facebook group for the midwest or Chicago area where people actually give decent deals? I keep seeing these deals that are basically retail prices minus fifty bucks which is just insulting lol. Where are people actually finding the deep discounts these days without it being a total gamble? I really need to get this sorted before my flight or I'm gonna be stuck shooting blurry herons with my phone...
Tbh prices are a total joke lately and unfortunately MPB has been slacking on their sensor checks. For your budget, skip generic sites and try Fred Miranda. Youll get way better specs there.
- Sony Alpha a9 24.2MP Mirrorless Body: Blackout-free EVF and 20fps is huge for tracking birds.
- Sony Alpha a7R III 42.4MP Body: Better resolution but unfortunately the AF tracking isnt nearly as sticky.
