I finally saved up for the 24-70mm GM II for my A7IV since I have two weddings to shoot in Chicago this July. I've been checking Greentoe since everyone says they're the best for discounts but the bidding process is kinda confusing and I'm worried about getting a grey market copy with no warranty.
Then I see people mentioning those Japanese eBay sellers where the prices are way lower but then some guys on Reddit say you're screwed if the lens breaks. My budget is capped at $1900 so I'm trying to find a legit US deal that isnt just the standard $2300 MSRP. Anyone know if there are specific EDU discounts or maybe a seasonal sale coming up?
EDU is the absolute best!
- B&H EDU: amazing price, need ID tho
- Open Box: Adorama is fantastic, but stock moves fast Youll love the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II focus speed!
Honestly, you can totally hit that $1900 target if you play it smart! I just grabbed the Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II recently and it is absolutely amazing... the sharpness is just insane for weddings. Skip the eBay gamble tho, especially for pro work. You need that US warranty for peace of mind.
- Sign up for the EDU discount program at B&H Photo or Adorama. If you know anyone with a .edu email, use it! The savings on Sony gear are fantastic and it often drops the price near $2000 or less.
- Keep a close eye on Open Box deals at B&H or Adorama. They are basically brand new but way cheaper and fully covered.
- Wait for Memorial Day sales in late May. Sony usually does a massive price drop on GM glass then. Ngl, that lens on your Sony Alpha 7 IV is going to be a dream setup for those Chicago weddings! Youll love the autofocus speed!
Good to know!
ngl i am in the exact same position right now trying to source a Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II without paying the full $2298 retail. been looking for a solid month because i absolutely refuse to gamble on those imports where you lose the us manufacturer support and warranty. given the complex internal xd linear motors and the tight tolerances on those aspherical elements i need that factory protection if something goes wrong. its basically impossible to find a legitimate us-authorized vendor willing to drop below that 2k mark though... starting to think that $1900 target is just out of reach and im getting pretty tired of refreshing the same three sites every morning.
