Been shooting on my old 5D Mark III for years now and honestly I thought it would last forever but the shutter is starting to sound real crunchy and Im seeing some weird banding on the sensor lately. Ive got a wedding gig coming up in Chicago in about three weeks and Im starting to panic a little because I definitely dont have the cash for a brand new R-series body right now. Im trying to stay under $800 and just want a solid refurbished DSLR like a 90D or maybe even a 6D Mark II if the deal is right.
The problem is I keep checking the official Canon refurb site and everything I actually want is perpetually out of stock or the prices are barely lower than retail which is super annoying. I used to see killer deals on there but lately its been a ghost town or maybe I just have terrible timing. I looked at KEH and MPB too but their excellent condition stuff is pushing my budget a bit too far once you add in shipping and taxes. Is there some other reliable place people are finding these deep discounts or maybe a specific time of week Canon restocks their site that I dont know about? I really need to get this sorted before the end of the month or Im gonna be stuck renting which is just throwing money away at this point. Where are you guys actually finding the best refurbished Canon DSLR discounts these days?
Unfortunately, the Canon EOS 90D DSLR 32.5MP is still inflated because of that 45-point cross-type AF system and Dual Pixel tech.
- eBay Refurbished: Look for the certified badge. You can find a Canon EOS 6D Mark II 26.2MP for under $750.
- Swappa: Better for checking specific shutter counts. Its a bummer the market is dry, but youll pull through for that wedding. Let me know if you need more help.
> The problem is I keep checking the official Canon refurb site and everything I actually want is perpetually out of stock Honestly, the official Canon shop has been such a letdown lately. I used to swear by them, but like you said, the stock is basically non-existent and the prices are just... not as good as expected. I actually had a really disappointing experience trying to find a Canon EOS 90D 32.5MP DSLR there last month. Everything was way too expensive for a refurb. If you're trying to stay under $800, maybe check out Adoramas used section. I know KEH is pricey, but Adorama sometimes has better deals on their V or E rated gear. I picked up a Canon EOS 6D Mark II Full Frame Digital SLR from them a while back and it was decent, tho the shipping took forever. Just be careful with random sites... usually too good to be true and not worth the risk. Keep hunting tho, youll find something before that Chicago gig! If you find a listing and want a second opinion, just ask.
I've been in that exact spot and found some solid ways to save. Honestly, I'm really happy with how my current setup came together by being a bit methodical about where I look...
- Check B&H Photo Used Canon EOS 6D Mark II DSLR specifically with a 9 or 9+ rating. Their grading is so strict it basically feels brand new and works well right out of the box.
- Look into the Adorama Canon EOS 90D DSLR Body in their open-box or demo section. These don't always show up in the main refurb category but the discounts are usually better.
- Call the Canon loyalty program directly. If you give them the serial number of your dying 5D, they often offer 20 percent off a refurbished Canon EOS 90D 32.5MP DSLR even if it looks out of stock online. I've had no complaints using these methods to stay under budget and they've been very reliable.
