I'm looking to explore the world of macro photography and would like your recommendations for the best macro lens for the Fuji X mount system. I'm particularly interested in a lens that offers excellent sharpness, good working distance, and a magnification ratio of at least 1:1.

I've been considering the Fujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro and the Zeiss Touit 50mm f/2.8M, but I'm open to other suggestions as well. What are your experiences with macro lenses on the Fuji X system? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

For macro lens, here are three recommended lenses for Fuji X mount cameras:

  1. Fujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro

    • This lens offers a 1:1 magnification ratio, optical image stabilization, and a weather-resistant design. It's great for capturing detailed close-ups and performs well in various lighting conditions.
  2. Fujifilm XF 60mm f/2.4 R Macro

    • A compact and lightweight macro lens with a 1:2 magnification ratio. It has a fast aperture, allowing for good low-light performance and beautiful background blur.
  3. Venus Optics Laowa 65mm f/2.8 2x Ultra Macro APO

    • This unique lens offers 2:1 magnification, making it excellent for extreme close-ups. It features apochromatic correction for minimal chromatic aberration and a compact design.

These lenses vary in terms of focal length, magnification ratio, and other features, allowing you to choose one that fits your specific macro photography needs.

I think, the best macro lenses for the Fujifilm X Mount is  Fujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro.

This lens offers a true 1:1 magnification ratio, making it ideal for capturing intricate details in close-up photography.  It is highly regarded among macro photographers using Fuji cameras.

XF 30mm f/2.8 LM WR Macro Lens - looks so small... but it's a great lens. Crazy-sharp, with a quick autofocus. Very lightweight, and the 30mmm gives you a nice normal field of view

Building on the earlier suggestion, honestly its just ridiculous how much of a scam the macro market has become for us Fuji shooters lately. I've been doing this for years and it feels like the big companies just dont care about anything but milking our wallets.

  • The native prices are basically a scam at this point. Paying over a thousand bucks for a lens that should be half that price drives me crazy.
  • Quality control has gone off a cliff. I've had so many issues with decentering and gritty focus rings right out of the box... its unacceptable for gear at this price point.
  • Manufacturers are totally ignoring what macro shooters actually need, like better working distance and internal focusing that doesnt feel like a cheap toy. It is so frustrating that we dont have real middle-ground options that actually perform. Everything is either a cheap compromise or a luxury item. Ngl, it makes me want to just pack it in sometimes.

While not a true macro lens, the Fujifilm XF 60mm f/2.4 R is a great choice for close-up photography. It focuses down to 10.5 inches for 0.5x magnification. The optics are super sharp and it's very compact and lightweight. A good versatile lens for portraits, close-ups, and everyday shooting. Can often be found used for a reasonable price.

Fujifilm XF 80mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR Macro: This is a dedicated macro lens with a 1:1 magnification ratio. It features optical image stabilization (OIS) and has a weather-resistant design, making it suitable for outdoor macro photography. The lens is sharp across the frame and offers excellent bokeh, making it versatile for both macro and portrait photography.
