Im losing my mind trying to pick a lens for my new X-T5. I have about 1200 bucks to spend and I really need something versatile because I have a trip to Japan coming up in like six weeks and I dont want to be swapping glass every five minutes on the street. I keep reading that the 18-55mm kit lens is fine but honestly it feels a bit soft for the 40mp sensor? Then people rave about the 16-55mm f2.8 but that thing is massive and I feel like it defeats the whole point of shooting mirrorless if I have to carry a brick around all day. I looked at the Sigma 18-50mm too but then some forum threads mentioned it lacks the aperture ring and I really love that tactile feel on the Fuji bodies so now Im stuck again. My logic was that a single zoom would be best but Im just not sure if the compromises are worth it or if I should just grab a prime and deal with the cropping. Honestly you are definitely overthinking it! Japan is incredible and you dont want to spend the whole trip staring at your gear instead of the scenery. I took my setup to Kyoto last year and honestly the best lens is the one that actually stays on the camera. You should seriously look at the Fujifilm XF 16-80mm f/4 R OIS WR. It has that sweet aperture ring you love, the reach is fantastic for street shots, and the stabilization is a total lifesaver for night shots.

^ This. Also, dont stress the 40mp sensor too much, the lens glass matters way more than the pixels. In my experience, if you want that Fuji feel without the bulk of the big zooms, you should just grab the Fujifilm XF 16-55mm F2.8 R LM WR used or look at:
- Fujifilm XF 16-80mm F4 R OIS WR for that sweet range
- Fujifilm XF 18-55mm F2.8-4 R LM OIS if you find a cheap copy Honestly, just take the gear out and shoot.
