Im heading to Japan in exactly three weeks and I feel like I have absolutely nothing ready for my X-T5. I really need one solid lens that can handle street photography and some landscape shots because I dont want to be swapping glass constantly while I'm walking around Tokyo. Im stuck between the XF 16-55mm f/2.8 or the 18-55mm kit lens. The 16-55 is obviously way sharper and feels pro, but its so heavy and expensive compared to the 18-55 which I could probably find used for cheap. Is it really worth hauling that giant brick of a lens around all day or should I just save the money for sushi...
Just saw this. I have used both, and honestly, the weight difference is massive. Over the years, I have learned that if your gear is too heavy, you wont take it out.
- Fujifilm XF 16-55mm f/2.8 R LM WR is technically superior, but overkill for street.
- Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS is surprisingly sharp and easy to carry. Take the smaller one and buy the sushi, you wont regret it.
Honestly, grab the Fujifilm XF 18-55mm f/2.8-4 R LM OIS. The 16-55 is overkill and a pain to lug around. Spend the extra cash on amazing food instead, seriously.

Honestly, I took a heavy pro lens to Kyoto a few years back and ended up leaving it at the hotel by day three because my neck was killing me. Carrying that extra weight really kills the vibe when you just wanna explore.
- lighter gear lets you shoot longer
- less fatigue means better shots
- focus on enjoying the trip I really suggest sticking to something smaller so you can actually enjoy the sushi instead of worrying about your back.
