What prime lens should I actually get for my new X-T5 if I want to get serious about street photography? I finally upgraded from my old Canon rebel and I’m kinda overwhelmed by the Fuji lens lineup tbh. I spent all last night reading reviews and everyone says the XF 23mm f2 is the king of street because it’s so small and fast to focus, but then I see other guys on forums saying that the 40 megapixel sensor on the T5 is too much for that older glass and I should get the 23mm f1.4 R LM WR instead if I want it to actually look sharp.
The thing is the 1.4 version is basically double the price and looks huge... I’m going to Tokyo for two weeks in October and I really want to be discreet and not look like a pro tourist if that makes sense? I also looked at the 27mm pancake but people say it’s noisy and the autofocus isnt great for moving subjects. My budget is around 900 bucks max so I could technically afford the fancy 1.4 but I dont know if the extra weight is gonna ruin the experience of walking 15 miles a day. Does the image quality difference really matter that much on the T5 or am I just overthinking the tech specs?
You are overthinking the 40MP sensor thing. The older f2 primes still perform great on the X-T5. For Tokyo, prioritize weight and budget.
- Fujifilm XF 23mm f2 R WR is the best value. Fast autofocus and very sharp.
- Fujifilm XF 27mm f2.8 R WR is tiny but autofocus is noisier. Get the 23mm f2 and spend the saved cash on your trip.
