Which prime lens should I buy for my Fujifilm X-S20?

I am so incredibly frustrated with the 15-45mm kit lens that came with my X-S20. I took it to my nieces indoor birthday party last weekend and literally half of my photos came out blurry or just completely missed focus because the aperture is so slow when you zoom in. Im honestly fed up with missing these moments and I need to get a fast prime lens before her school play next Friday.

I need something that performs way better in low light because the lighting in these school auditoriums is always garbage. My budget is pretty tight, trying to keep it under 400 dollars if possible, maybe 500 if it makes a massive difference. I live in Chicago so I can probably run to a local shop or order online quickly.

Im looking at the XF 35mm f2 or maybe the Viltrox 27mm f1.2 but that one might be too heavy and expensive. I just need something reliable that will actually lock focus on a moving kid indoors without making the ISO shoot up to like 12800.

Which prime lens should I get to replace this kit lens before next week?

I honestly think you should grab the Fujifilm XF 35mm f2 R WR. It works well for exactly what you're doing and I've been super happy with mine.

  • Fast AF lets you catch moving kids easily.
  • The f2 aperture is way better than that kit lens.
  • Its tiny and fits the X-S20 perfectly. It handles low light comfortably and fits your budget without being bulky like that Viltrox lens.
