so Ive had this Panasonic S5II for about three weeks now and honestly Im still trying to figure out half the buttons. bought it as a kit with the 20-60mm lens because everyone said it was a good starting point and my budget was already screaming at me after buying the body lol. but Im finding myself wishing I could zoom in a bit more without having to swap lenses all the time since I have zero idea what Im doing and am terrified of getting dust inside the camera.
my main use case is just walking around my neighborhood in Chicago and taking photos of my dog running in the park, plus we have a trip to visit family in Oregon coming up next month and I really dont want to pack a giant bag of gear that Ill probably mess up anyway. Ive been looking online at other lenses like the 28-200mm or maybe a 24-70mm and my brain is honestly turning to mush looking at all the numbers and f-stops and stuff. like whats the actual difference between them for a total beginner who just wants nice sharp pictures without spending another grand if I dont have to?
sorry if this is a dumb question but what is actually considered the best all-around zoom lens for someone like me who just wants one single lens that can do a bit of everything so I can stop stressing about what to pack...
Honestly, the 20-60 is decent but limited. I tried the Panasonic Lumix S 24-105mm f/4 Macro O.I.S. for a while, but it felt kinda soft at the long end for what I paid.
- Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD: Great range, but you lose that wide angle for architecture.
- Sigma 28-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary: Way sharper, tho still limited zoom. Just stick to one prime if you want quality, zooms are rarely perfect.
