Top budget-friendly wide-angle lens options for Leica SL2 systems?

im honestly so fed up with leica glass prices after blowing my whole savings on the SL2 body. i need a wide angle for a trip to oregon next month but i cant drop 5k on a lens right now.

under $1200

native l-mount

decent autofocus

what are the best options that wont break the bank??

Look, it sucks that you bought into the Leica ecosystem only to realize the glass is basically a second mortgage. I went through the same thing with my SL2. Unfortunately, finding anything native that matches the sensors potential under $1200 is always gonna be a compromise. Most of the budget stuff just doesnt have that micro-contrast youre probably looking for. If you need a zoom, the Sigma 16-28mm f/2.8 DG DN Contemporary L-Mount is basically your only realistic choice for a new lens. Its fine, but I honestly had issues with some flare when shooting into the sun, which is gonna be a pain for your Oregon landscapes. The build quality feels a bit plastic compared to the tank-like body too. If you can live with a prime, the Panasonic Lumix S 18mm f/1.8 S-S18 is decent but the autofocus is sometimes a bit jumpy in low contrast scenes. Its not as sharp as the Leica primes obviously, which is disappointing when youre pixel peeping an SL2 file. Another tip: if you can find one used, the Sigma 14-24mm f/2.8 DG DN Art L-Mount is way better than the Contemporary line, tho it is a heavy brick to carry around all day. Most third party AF just isnt as snappy as native Leica glass. Just the way it is.

Be careful with cheap glass because AF might hunt in low light. Make sure to check:Weather sealingCorner sharpness I'd suggest watching for old firmware so you dont get errors.
