Which L-mount prime should I actually grab for pro portraits before a big shoot next month? Im totally torn between the Sigma 85mm f1.4 Art and the Panasonic S Pro 50mm f1.4, though that Panny is kinda pushing my budget a bit. Ive got a wedding coming up in Seattle in three weeks and my current zoom just isnt cutting it for that creamy bokeh look I need and the lighting is gonna be tricky. I keep hearing the 85mm is the classic choice but that 50mm S Pro is supposed to have some crazy rendering... is it really worth the extra weight and cash? I have about $1400 max and need something sharp that wont hunt for focus on my S5II. Which one wins?
The Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art L-mount has been my workhorse lately and I have no complaints. The stepping motor is basically silent which is huge for wedding ceremonies. It hits that $1400 budget with room for a spare battery or some extra SD cards.
- Sharpness is insane even wide open.
- Panasonic Lumix S 85mm f1.8 is the best alternative if you want to stay super light. The Sigma 85mm is just more practical for pro work, especially in that Seattle gloom.
In my experience, Sigma 85mm f1.4 DG DN Art L-mount is the superior choice for your budget.
- Faster autofocus performance
- Better weight balance This lens delivers professional results without the Panasonic price tag.
Just wanted to say thanks for everyone chiming in. Super helpful discussion.
