torn between the Sigma 35mm f2 and the Panny 35mm f1.8 for my S5ii. my logic was the Sigma feels nicer but the Panny is weather sealed for London rain and lighter for street stuff. got about $600 to spend. which one actually focuses faster when things are moving? i just cant decide...
> torn between the Sigma 35mm f2 and the Panny 35mm f1.8 for my S5ii. Honestly, for the S5ii specifically, the Panasonic Lumix S 35mm f1.8 is probably the more practical choice for street work. Native glass usually communicates a bit better with the phase hybrid AF when subjects are moving around. The Sigma 35mm f2 DG DN Contemporary feels amazing and is built like a tank, but that extra weight starts to feel heavy after a few hours of walking. Since you mentioned the London rain, that weather sealing on the Panny is definitely worth having. You can often find it for well under $500 if you shop around used on sites like MPB, which keeps you well under your budget. Its a solid lens that just works and balances perfectly on the S5ii body. If you have more questions about the l-mount ecosystem or other budget primes let me know.
