What is the absolute sharpest lens I can get for portraits on a Nikon DSLR right now?
I keep seeing people rave about the Sigma 85mm Art but others say the Nikon 105mm f/1.4E is the king for sharpness. Im shooting a wedding in Seattle next month and have about 1200 bucks... is the Sigma just way too heavy?
The Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG HSM Art for Nikon F is technically sharper but honestly, be careful with that weight for a whole wedding. It’s basically a brick. You might want to consider the Tamron SP 85mm f/1.8 Di VC USD for Nikon instead. The image stabilization is a lifesaver in low light, and you wont notice a huge difference in sharpness anyway.
Saw this earlier but just now responding. Spent years chasing ultimate sharpness until a brutal wedding left my back wrecked.
- Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED: The king for a reason. Tack sharp but definitely eats your budget.
- Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 85mm f/1.8G: Way lighter, cheaper, and honestly sharp enough for most clients. Practicality usually beats technical specs when youre on your feet all day.
