What is the absolute best all-around zoom for the Nikon Z series right now? I just jumped to a Z8 for a wedding in Seattle in two weeks and need native glass fast.

Ive used the F-mount 24-70 forever but my budgets $2400. Is the 24-120 f4 solid or do I need the 2.8 S?

Congrats on the Z8, its a total beast. Tbh, if you are doing a wedding in Seattle in two weeks, you gotta think about the lighting. Seattle is basically synonymous with gray skies and dim church interiors, so that should probably dictate your choice here. Since your budget is $2400, you can actually afford the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S right now. Its basically the gold standard for pros for a reason. The extra stop of light over the f4 makes a massive difference when you are trying to keep your shutter speed up during a ceremony without cranking the ISO to astronomical levels. Its scary sharp across the frame and the bokeh is way smoother than any F-mount version you used before. Serious jump in quality. That said, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S is arguably the best bang for your buck lens Nikon has ever made. Its light, the range is incredible for reception candids, and the close-up performance is wild. But for a wedding? I usually lean toward the 2.8 just for that peace of mind. If you go with the 24-120, you might find yourself wishing for more light once the sun goes down or the indoor lighting gets moody. Since you got the budget for the big gun, Id say grab the 24-70 2.8 S and dont look back... it really is that good.
