Finally ditched my old DSLR for a Z6ii but the kit 24-70 f4 isnt cutting it for my kids soccer games next month. I need more reach without swapping glass constantly on the sidelines. Is that 24-120mm S the move for a $1200 budget or is there a better versatile zoom I should look at?

I was in your shoes last summer during my daughters soccer tournament. Honestly the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-120mm f/4 S is a total beast and I couldnt be happier with the results. I grabbed mine for about a grand and it basically never leaves my Z6ii now. It works well for those mid-field plays, tho if the action is way on the other side of the pitch, you might still feel a tiny bit short. I usually just crop in a bit or use the DX mode and the sharpness is still way better than any kit lens Ive used. Quick tip: map your lens Fn button to the DX crop mode. It lets you instantly punch in for extra reach when they are shooting on the far goal without losing your focus or missing the shot.
