Which Nikon lens is best for beginner landscape photographers?

Ive been shooting portraits for years on my D750 but tried some coastal shots at Big Sur recently and my 50mm was way too tight. Its weird how different the framing feels for scenery. Looking to spend around $600 max. Should I grab a 20mm prime or is a zoom better for a total landscape noob?

Re: "Go for the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G..." i totally get why zooms are popular, but are you planning on shooting sunset mostly? If youre doing low light stuff, the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED is way safer for sharpness, but be careful with fixed primes. I once used the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 16-35mm f/4G ED VR and it was so heavy it almost tipped my tripod over near a ledge. Make sure your setup is stable...

Tbh, Tamron 17-35mm f/2.8-4 Di OSD A037 for Nikon F has better MTF data on DXOMARK. Quick tip: dont stop down past f/11 to avoid diffraction. TL;DR: Tamron beats Nikon zooms on corner resolution.

Go for the Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 18-35mm f/3.5-4.5G ED! Its honestly amazing for the price and way more flexible than a prime when youre stuck on a cliff tbh. The resolution is fantastic at f/8. Quick tip: always check your hyperfocal distance instead of just focusing on infinity, it makes a huge difference in foreground sharpness! Get it used and youll stay well under budget.
