I’ve been staring at my screen for three hours and my head is literally spinning. My sisters wedding is in six weeks in this tiny historic chapel in Chicago and I really need to get a solid prime lens for my D750 but the internet is giving me zero straight answers. I keep seeing people rave about the 85mm f/1.8G being the absolute king of portraits but then I read these horror stories about how you have to be like ten feet away just to get a headshot which is never gonna happen in this venue.

Then there’s the 50mm crowd. They say it’s more versatile but then some pros on a forum I saw yesterday said it makes people's noses look huge if you do close-ups? I mean I dont want my sister looking like a caricature on her big day lol. My budget is pretty firm at $500 tops because I still need to buy extra batteries and a new bag. Im just worried if I go with the 85mm it’ll be too tight for the indoor reception but if I go 50mm the portraits wont have that wow bokeh everyone wants. Im honestly so annoyed with all the conflicting reviews and I feel like Im just going in circles at this point.

Which prime should I actually pull the trigger on for the best balance of look and space?
