gonna be in Iceland next Tuesday and need the sharpest prime for my D850, like, really need it. I saw the Sigma 35mm Art is top-rated for resolution but then some people say the AF is unreliable on high-res bodies and I dont want that.

which glass actually maximizes those 45 megapixels without failing me?

tbh if youre heading to iceland, you need something that wont quit on you. Sigma Art glass is sharp but native Nikon lenses are definitely more reliable for AF consistency on the D850. Since youre looking to maximize resolution on a budget, these are my go-to options:

  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 50mm f/1.8G is probably the best bang for your buck. Its lightweight and incredibly sharp once you stop it down a bit.
  • Nikon AF-S NIKKOR 20mm f/1.8G ED is a solid choice for landscapes. Its native, so the AF is way more consistent than third-party stuff.
  • Buying used from a reputable dealer can save you hundreds compared to buying new. I usually prefer the f/1.8 line over the f/1.4 versions because theyre lighter and honestly just as sharp for landscape shots... plus they leave more money for the actual trip.
