Is there a single master lens that fits all Sony alpha bodies?

ok so I was looking at Sony E mount specs all morning cause Im planning a trip to Japan next month and my budget is around 1500 bucks for glass... I read that the Tamron 28-75 is basically the ultimate do-it-all travel lens, but then some forum post said crop sensor bodies need aps-c glass while full frame uses FE so my logic was like wait do they actually physically fit both or am I missing something totally obvious here. Is there literally one master lens that mounts on every single Sony alpha body ever made without needing adapters...

Yes they physically fit! Every single Sony E-mount body uses the exact same mount flange whether its full frame or aps-c, so any E-mount lens mounts right up. But be super careful cause putting a full frame lens on a crop body gives you a weird crop factor, and putting aps-c glass on full frame triggers crop mode automatically which cuts your megapixels in half. Since your budget is 1500 and you are heading to Japan grab the Tamron 28-75mm F2.8 Di III VXD G2 for full frame or the Sigma 18-50mm F2.8 DC DN Contemporary if you shoot crop! Both are absolute lifesavers for travel and leave you plenty of cash for street food over there. Have an amazing trip!

Yeah they all physically mount up fine since Sony kept the same E-mount diameter for both crop and full frame. Since you got about fifteen hundred bucks for your Japan trip, grab a Tamron 28-75mm f 2.8 Di III VXD G2 if you are shooting full frame. It leaves you plenty of cash left over for travel expenses and hotels tbh. Just remember your crop factor math if you are using an a6000 series body.

Building on the earlier suggestion, physical fit is only half the battle. I learned this the hard way on a trip when my corners looked awful due to mismatching.

  • Check your exact camera model first
  • Factor in crop factors before buying What body are you actually shooting with right now?
