So I just got a Sony a6000 and I am honestly so confused by all the different glass and numbers you can buy for it. I really want to take those cool photos where you can see like the whole landscape at once but the lens that came with the camera doesnt seem to go wide enough for what I want to do. Im going on a trip to the Grand Canyon in three weeks and I really want to be able to capture the scale of it all. I have about $350 saved up for this but I have no idea where to even start looking since there are so many brands like Sigma and Samyang and Sony themselves. Some people say get a prime lens and others say zoom but I dont really get the difference yet sorry if thats really basic. I just want something that isnt gonna break the bank but still gives me that wide look for my vacation photos. Does anyone know what the best budget wide-angle lens for a Sony Alpha would be for someone who is a total beginner and just wants something easy to use...

Hey there, welcome to the club. I've been shooting with the a6000 series for a long time and I'm honestly super satisfied with the Samyang 12mm f2.0 AF Sony E for landscapes. Since you're going to the Grand Canyon, you really want that extra width to get the whole scale. A prime lens just means it doesnt zoom in or out, so you gotta move your feet, but the image quality is usually way better for the price. I've had no complaints with mine... it captures so much of the horizon. If you want something for general use too, the Sigma 16mm f1.4 DC DN Contemporary is another gem that fits your budget. Its a bit less wide but works well in low light. Either one is gonna be a massive upgrade over that kit lens. Let me know if you need help with settings!
