What is the absolute sharpest landscape lens for the Sony A7R V right now?
Ive been shooting for years but this 61MP sensor is making my old glass look like mush and I need something better before my trip to Zion next month. Got $2k to spend and really need edge-to-edge sharpness for some big prints... maybe the 35mm GM or one of those crazy Voigtlanders?
Regarding what #2 said about "Spent months obsessing over MTF charts for my...", the Sony FE 20mm f/1.8 G yields near-GM line-pair resolution for half the price, saving you plenty for Zion.
Spent months obsessing over MTF charts for my high-res body before a big trip! I tested a couple options and the results were kinda wild.
- Voigtlander 35mm f/2 APO-LANTHAR Aspherical: Apochromatic design means zero CA and clinical edge sharpness. Manual focus tho.
- Sony FE 24-70mm f/2.8 GM II: Shockingly sharp zoom, basically matches primes at f/5.6. Ngl the micro-contrast on that Voigtlander is just unreal for huge prints!
Yep, this is the way
Been using this for years, no complaints
Man I wish I found this thread sooner. Would have saved me so much hassle.
Wow ok that changes things. Gonna have to rethink my approach now.
I had that exact same issue when I first got my high-res body, but the Sony FE 35mm f/1.4 GM totally fixed it! The MTF charts are insane and it basically eliminates axial chromatic aberration. I took it to the Dolomites and the fine detail in the granite was mind-blowing!
- Incredible corner-to-corner resolution
- Handles the 61MP sensor perfectly
- Solid value under $2k Seriously love it for big prints tho!
