I need to find a wide lens like yesterday because my sisters wedding is in ten days and Im the designated photographer which is a lot of pressure. I have a Sony A7III but I spent basically all my cash on the body and only have about 300 bucks left for a lens. I need something wide for the venue shots and those big group photos where everyone is crammed together.

I looked at that Samyang 14mm f2.8 manual one because its super cheap but I heard the distortion is weird like a mustache shape and I dont have time to mess with that in post plus I really need autofocus if Im being honest because weddings move fast. Then I saw the Tamron 20mm f2.8 but some reviews say the autofocus is kinda loud and slow and now I'm just stressed out.

My main requirements are:

  • Has to be under 300 dollars
  • Decent autofocus for quick shots
  • Sharp enough for 8x10 prints

Is there anything else out there? Maybe something from Viltrox or a used Sigma that I missed? I really need to order this by tonight so it gets here in time for the rehearsal. What would you grab if you were in my shoes?

The Viltrox AF 20mm f/2.8 FE is likely your best bet for under 300 dollars. Its incredibly affordable and the autofocus is reliable enough for wedding work. If you need something slightly wider, the Samyang AF 18mm f/2.8 FE is also a decent option that fits your budget. Both lenses are sharp enough for the 8x10 prints you mentioned.
