so i just got this sony a6000 from my uncle and im trying to take it on a trip to oregon next month. i want to take pictures of the mountains but the lens it came with doesnt fit enough in the frame if that makes sense? i was looking at the official sony ones online but they are like $800 which is way too much for me.
my logic was maybe i could find something for like $250 max. i saw some things called sigma or tamron but i dont even know if those work on sony cameras or if theyll break it. is there like a cheap wide lens that isnt a piece of junk for a beginner? sorry if this is a really basic thing to ask im just totally lost...
> i saw some things called sigma or tamron but i dont even know if those work on sony cameras or if theyll break it. Over the years ive used a ton of gear on my alpha setups and honestly, dont worry about third party brands breaking your camera. Sigma and Tamron are legit companies that make some of my favorite glass. I think they basically specialize in making stuff that fits Sony better than Sony does sometimes... especially for the price. Not 100% sure on the exact current pricing since market values jump around, but IIRC you can definitely find some great prime lenses from companies like Samyang for way under that $800 mark. Someone told me their older manual focus ones are absolute steals for landscape shots since you dont really need autofocus for mountains anyway. In my experience, those manual lenses are built like tanks and give you a really cool perspective for a fraction of the cost.
