Ive been staring at my screen for like three hours trying to decide on one single lens for my A7IV and my head is spinning. Im planning this big trip to Japan in October and I really just want one lens that can do it all so I dont have to carry a massive bag around Tokyo. My logic was to look at the Tamron 28-75mm G2 since everyone says its the best value for the money and the weight is perfect for walking all day. But then I started reading some threads saying that 28mm isnt actually wide enough for city streets and I should look at the Sigma 24-70mm Art instead.
The problem is the Sigma is way heavier and I dont want to be miserable by noon. I also saw the Sony 20-70mm f4 which sounds amazing for the wide end but then I worry about the f4 aperture when we go out for dinner or do any night photography in Shinjuku. My budget is right around $1200 so I cant really afford the Sony GM II version which seems to be the actual dream lens.
So I keep going back and forth... do I prioritize the low light of the f2.8 or the extra width of the 20mm or 24mm? Is the 28mm really going to feel that cramped? I just want something that stays on the camera 90% of the time without breaking my bank or my back...
