Just picked up a used Sony a6000 and Im super excited to start taking photos but the lens that came with it is honestly kinda meh. Im going on a trip to Italy in about three months and I really just want one lens that can do a bit of everything because carrying around a bag full of glass sounds like a total nightmare. My budget is around 500 bucks max since I already spent a chunk on the body. Im totally new to this so sorry if this is a super dumb question but what is the best all-around lens that wont break the bank?
Just catching up on this thread. For your budget, look at the Sigma 18-50mm f/2.8 DC DN Contemporary. It is super sharp and tiny, though you lose some reach. If you want more zoom, the Tamron 18-200mm f/3.5-6.3 Di III VC is solid, but be careful with low light as it is slower. Just make sure to test your choice before Italy so you know the autofocus quirks!

Saw this earlier but just now getting to it. Honestly, sticking to one lens for a whole trip is the best move. I tried hauling way too much gear to Florence once and ended up missing so many shots just fiddling with gear.
