I'm kind of panicking right now because I just dropped a ton of money on a Sony a7iv (I think that's the name?) because I wanted to take better photos for my honeymoon in Italy next month but honestly looking at all these lens options online is making my head spin. I thought the camera came with everything I needed but people keep saying the kit lens is trash and I should get something better if I want that blurry background look everyone has on Instagram. I have no idea what any of these numbers mean like what is 24-70mm vs 35mm and why do some cost $500 and some cost $2000?? It’s so confusing.
I really just want ONE lens that can do everything. I dont want to be that person on the street corner fumbling with a giant bag of glass while my wife gets annoyed waiting for me lol. I want to take nice pictures of the buildings in Rome and maybe some close-up shots of the pasta we eat and then some nice portraits of us where the background is all soft and pretty. My budget is probably around $800 to $1200 maybe? Is that enough? I keep seeing brands like Sigma and Tamron too but I dont know if theyll break my camera or if they're actually good. I'm leaving in 18 days so I need to order something like... yesterday.
Sorry if this is a really basic question I'm just totally lost and the more YouTube videos I watch the more confused I get with all the technical talk about aperture and chromatic stuff whatever that is. Is there just one gold standard lens that most people use for everything? Like if you could only bring one thing on a trip across the world what would it be? I just want my photos to look professional without me having to become a scientist to understand how the camera works...
I'd go with the Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 over the heavier Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art. Just be careful with that 28mm wide end when shooting narrow Italian streets.
