What's the best one-lens-solution for a Sony A7IV right now? I've shot primes for years but I'm heading to Iceland next month and don't want to swap glass in the wind. Budget is around $1200.

Is the Tamron 28-200 actually sharp enough or should I just stick to the Sigma 24-70? I need something versatile for landscapes and street stuff...

Been thinking about your lens choice and the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD is actually fantastic for the price! Honestly, its way more versatile for Iceland landscapes than the Sigma. Saving that extra cash is a huge plus tho... you can usually find it way under your budget. Its totally sharp enough for big prints and that extra reach is amazing! Let me know if you want links to some cheaper gear sites.

Unfortunately, I've had issues with the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD when it comes to weather sealing in harsh environments. Its not as good as expected for somewhere like Iceland where the wind drives grit into everything. Since you're used to primes, you'll likely be disappointed by the corner softness at the long end... it just doesnt hold up for professional-looking landscapes. I'd suggest the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS instead. The optics are way more consistent and it’s built like a tank compared to the third-party zooms. Quick tip: that 24mm wide end is much more important for those massive glaciers than the extra reach at 200mm. The Sigma 24-70mm f/2.8 DG DN Art is great for sharpness, but honestly, the weight is gonna be a pain for hiking all day. Stick to the G lens for the best balance of reliability and range.

I was in your shoes last year in the Scottish Highlands! I spent weeks obsessing over MTF charts and resolving power data for my current setup. The 50mph winds made swapping glass impossible! I used a versatile zoom I got just for the trip and it was fantastic! I learned that flare resistance and micro-contrast matter way more for those landscapes than raw lab sharpness. Love the flexibility!
