I leave for Japan in five days and need one lens that does everything for my new Sony camera. Sorry if this is dumb but I thought more zoom was always better??

Then a friend said those are bad in the dark. My budget is 600 dollars and I just need the best all-in-one thing...

Honestly, dont overthink the zoom thing too much, but your friend is kinda right about the dark! I learned that the hard way during a rainy night in Osaka when my cheap kit lens just couldnt see anything. I spent the whole night frustrated and missed some cool neon shots... but then I found the Tamron 28-200mm f/2.8-5.6 Di III RXD and it literally changed everything for my travel setup. It is seriously amazing because it starts at f/2.8, which is way better for low light than those standard superzooms that start at f/3.5 or f/4. The range is fantastic for grabbing shots of distant temples or just street food right in front of you. It fits your budget perfectly if you find a deal! Trust me, you dont want to be swapping lenses while walking 10 miles a day in Tokyo. This thing stays on my camera 90% of the time now and the quality is just wild.
