Im stressing out because my sisters wedding is in two months and Im the designated photographer for the getting ready shots. My R10 is great but I only have the kit lens and its just not cutting it for portraits. I looked at the RF 50mm f/1.8 since everyone says its the obvious budget pick but then I read some threads saying the crop factor on the R10 makes it feel super tight indoors. Then I looked at the Sigma 18-35 with an adapter but its heavy and my budget is strictly under 400 bucks right now. Is the 50mm actually usable in a cramped bedroom or am I gonna regret not finding something wider?
Agreeing with #1, the 50mm is tough indoors. Grab the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM or maybe the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Contemporary for better room.
^ This. Also, grab the Canon RF 35mm f/1.8 Macro IS STM. It is just fantastic for indoor work and the stabilizer is a total lifesaver for those shaky, candid shots!
TL;DR: The 50mm is way too tight for indoor getting ready shots on that crop sensor. You will be backing into walls constantly. In my experience, shooting in cramped bedrooms with that focal length is a nightmare. Skip it and look for something around 30mm or 35mm instead. You really need the extra breathing room to frame up the bride and the dress without needing to leave the room just to get the shot.
